Currently students in Grades 5 and 6 learn Japanese with a specialist teacher, assisted by the class teacher who then follows up the program.

It is also incorporated through songs in the music program and sometimes through games or dance in the PE program.

The study of Japanese contributes to the education of students in the areas of literacy, communication, intercultural understanding, and thinking about how languages work. It introduces students to the culture of Japan and Japanese-speaking communities and promotes understanding of different attitudes and values.
