About Us

In 1860, Kingston Primary School was opened in Hutchins Street opposite to the Kingston Police Station.  There were thirty seven pupils and one teacher.

Over the next century enrolments had grown to such an extent that on 17 September 1976 new premises were opened on the present site in Church Street.

From 2008-2010 significant works programs commenced to re-invigorate classroom and playground facilities and to provide 21st Century learning environments. $4 million was invested in the capital development of the school resulting in refurbishment of all classrooms, upgrading the Library, GP Room, Canteen, Music Room and Administration Area as well as grounds upgrades.

In 2010 Kingston Primary School celebrated its 150th Birthday with a focus on many historical activities and visits to the school from parents, friends and past students.  A very special whole school photo was taken which is proudly displayed in the school foyer.

In 2014 we started our 24 Carrot Garden. Today the gardening is flourishing with students able to experience growing food from seedling to harvest.  Also completed in 2014 was our “Little Bush” outdoor classroom facility and walking track.

Our new School Kitchen was completed in 2015. This facility allows students to participate in cooking produce from the 24 Carrot Garden.

Further work during 2015 has made Kingston Primary School a fully environmentally sustainable school. In 2024 we welcomed new Early Years play spaces. This is a purpose-built nature inspired play space that will provide endless play opportunities, especially for our children aged from 0 to 8 years of age. The nature-based play space was designed with input from children, their families and our staff. Located to the left of our ‘Little Bush’, it will connect into our Middle and Upper Primary playground creating seamless transition between our students to collaboratively engage and create from Kindergarten to Year 6.

We are proud of the past achievements and the rich 162-year history of Kingston Primary School. In the future we look forward to continuing our fine record of providing an outstanding primary school education in an atmosphere of care and respect of each child.
